Man Charged In Fatal Beating Of 3-Month-Old Daughter
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 29-year-old Far South Side man has been charged with beating his 3-month old daughter to death.
Ivory Harmon has been ordered held without bond on charges of aggravated battery of a child. Since his daughter, Ianah Sherrod, 3 months, has died of her injuries, it has not been learned whether the charges will be, or have been, upgraded to first-degree murder.
Ianah was beaten in the 11300 block of South Forest Avenue, and later died, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The girl was unresponsive when her father brought her to an area hospital on Aug. 4 about 4:45 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.
Doctors determined the infant had been beaten, and placed her on a ventilator in critical condition after they were initially able to resuscitate her, according to a police News Affairs release. She was pronounced dead Tuesday at 12:48 p.m.
An investigation revealed Harmon allegedly inflicted the injuries upon the baby, a police news release said. Harmon was charged Sunday with one count of aggravated battery of a child.
He was ordered held without bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office Web site.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating an allegation of abuse against the father, spokesman Kendall Marlowe said. DCFS has not had prior contact with him and there are no other children in the home.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, the medical examiner's office said.
