Man Charged In High-Speed Crash After Fleeing Police In Park Ridge
UPDATE: William Kivit pleaded guilty to the felony charges in March, 2016 and served a sentence of 30 months probation, according to Cook County court records.
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A northwest suburban man is charged with four felonies for causing a serious motor vehicle crash while trying to escape police in Park Ridge last month.
William J. Kivit, 20, is charged with three counts of aggravated reckless driving and one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding for the June 3 crash at the intersection of Cumberland and Devon avenues in Park Ridge, police said.
Kivit was driving more than 79 mph and ran a red light while avoiding police when the vehicle he was driving collided with another vehicle in the intersection, police said.
Two people inside Kivit's vehicle were ejected and suffered serious injuries, police said. The driver of the other vehicle was also seriously hurt.
Kivit, of the 400 block of South Northwest Highway in Park Ridge, was ordered held on $25,000 at a hearing Thursday, according to police and the Cook County sheriff's office.
He is next scheduled to appear in court Aug. 7 at the Skokie courthouse.
