Man Charged In Fatal Bridgeport Hit-And-Run
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a woman in Bridgeport last Thursday.
Gabriel Herrera, 65, was charged early Saturday with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in injury or death, one misdemeanor count of failing to give information/render aid and one traffic citation for failure to reduce speed, according to a release from Chicago Police.
About 5:35 p.m. Thursday, 59-year-old Suai Xie was riding a bicycle in the 2900 block of South Poplar Avenue when she was struck by a van, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Xie, of the 400 block of West 28th Place, was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 6:08 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
An autopsy Friday found she died of multiple injuries from being hit by the van, and her death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said.
Herrera, who lives less than two blocks southwest from where the crash occurred, is scheduled to appear in bond court Saturday.
