Man Charged In Burglary Of South Loop Mariano's
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A West Side man is facing felony burglary charges after he attempted to rob a Mariano's Fresh Market in the South Loop early Wednesday.
Kenard Jarrett, 20, was charged with three felony counts of burglary after he attempted to steal items from the business Wednesday about 12:20 a.m., according to a statement from Chicago Police.
The store - located at 1615 S. Clark St. - is less than a quarter-mile from the Central District Chicago Police Station.
Jarrett, of the 1100 block of North Springfield Avenue, posed as an overnight employee when he entered the building, police said.
He was found inside the store attempting to steal money from the cash registers, police said at the time. A loss prevention employee recognized the man from a separate robbery that occurred at a different Mariano's store and began chasing after him.
The suspect then ran out of the store and jumped into a Jaguar, only to crash it into a building across the store's parking lot at 1601 S. Federal St., police said at the time. He then exited the vehicle but was soon tackled by the loss prevention employee, who held him down until police arrived.
He was taken into custody about 11:30 p.m., police said at the time. Jarrett might be a current or former employee at a different Mariano's store.
Jarrett is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Thursday.
