Man Charged In Attempted Dorm Room Sexual Assault
CHICAGO (STMW) - A man was charged Saturday for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a woman in September in her South Loop dorm room.
Deandre Minor, 26, of the 800 block of West 78th Street, was charged with one count each of attempted criminal sexual assault and aggravated battery to a police officer. He was also charged with one misdemeanor count each of criminal trespass to land and resisting/obstructing a police officer.
On Sept. 28, a 21-year-old woman stated that Minor entered her dorm room in the 500 block of South State Street and attempted to sexually assault her, according to a release from police News Affairs. The victim was able to fight Minor off and fled the scene. She did not receive any medical attention.
On Thursday, Near North District police noticed Minor attempting attempting to enter a building located on the 400 block of West Goethe Street at 8:15 p.m., according to the release. An officer familiar with the area knew Minor did not live at the address and approached him.
Minor fled on foot as the officer's attempted to conduct a field interview, according to the release. He was apprehended after a short foot chase, during which time he became combative. He was arrested on the 1300 block of North Sedgwick Street.
A name check revealed that an alert was issued by Belmont Area detectives for an attempted criminal sexual assault.
Minor was positively identified by the victim and charged, according to the release. He is expected to appear Saturday in bond court.
