Man Charged In 2009 Murder Of Lincoln Square Bar Owner
UPDATED 11/11/11 2:06 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man has been charged with the murder of a Lincoln Square bar owner who was brutally beaten in an attack outside the bar two years ago.
The man, 25, was arrested Wednesday, and charged the following day with the Oct. 4, 2009, murder of Robert Gonzales, 69, of Elmwood Park, outside his bar, O'Lanagan's, at 2335 W. Montrose Ave. between Lincoln and Western avenues.
The suspect was ordered held without bond Friday.
Police have not released the suspect's name. They say another man is also wanted in connection with the slaying and revealing his identity would impede that investigation.
Police say Gonzales was hit in the head with a blunt object and his body was found in an alley behind the bar.
Police responded because a burglar alarm was going off inside the bar.
Gonzales had more than $2,000 on his person when he was attacked, police said.
But police say he wasn't robbed, and the money was still in his pocket when his body was found, the Chicago Tribune reported at the time. However, the keys to the bar were missing.
O'Lanagan's was described by the Tribune as an old-fashioned "shot-and-a-beer joint" where draft beer costs $2. Gonzales had owned two other O'Lanagan's bars before opening the one on Montrose Avenue, the Tribune said.
The Montrose Avenue bar remains open.
