Man Charged After Shooting, Police Chase In Belmont Cragin
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged after a shooting and police chase early Monday in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
Damien Padilla, 21, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm, two felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, and one misdemeanor count of aggravated assault of a peace officer, according to Chicago Police.
Officers responded at 2:53 a.m. to a call of two people shot near Grand and Mango, police said.
A 28-year-old was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said. A 30-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the back and was taken in serious condition to Loyola University Medical Center.
When officers arrived at the scene of the shooting, a man ran away and a foot chase ensued, police said.
Shots were fired from police officers in the 2700 block of North Major, but no one was struck and Padilla was taken into custody.
Padilla, of the 600 block of North Trumbull Avenue, was scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.
