Man Celebrating Divorce Charged With Drunk Driving
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man celebrating his divorce allegedly got so drunk that he fell asleep behind a moving vehicle, but police were able to stop the car by hand because it was moving so slowly.
Police stopped Raul Vega, 34, as he drove along West Cermak Road and Marshall Boulevard at 5 mph, police said.
Police saw the slow moving car being followed by the person who had called police. Ogden District officers were able to physically stop the car, pound on the window and awaken Vega, whose head was "cocked back" and whose eyes were closed, according to the report.
When he woke up, he began fumbling with the windshield wipers and officers ordered him to put the car in park, the report said.
He had slurred speech, heavy eyelids, bloodshot eyes and an expired driver's license, the report said. He told officers he drank 10 to 12 beers because he was celebrating his divorce, the report said.
Vega, of the 2600 block of West 24th Street, was charged with felony aggravated DUI and two misdemeanor counts of DUI. He was also cited for having an expired driver's license, not wearing a seat belt, driving left of center and driving too slow, police said.
