Man Barricades Himself In Southwest Side Home

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An elderly man is hospitalized in police custody, after barricading himself inside a home in the Southwest Side's Clearing neighborhood for about five hours.
The standoff began just after 1 a.m. Tuesday in the 5600 block of West 63rd Street, just southwest of Midway International Airport.
Police say the man was facing eviction and locked himself inside. Initial reports indicate the man was threatening to shoot people who live inside the building.
The man was taken into custody about 6 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez, who said the situation was resolved safely.
The man who barricaded himself inside the apartment was taken to Holy Cross Hospital for observation, Perez said.
An officer was was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Perez said. He had pulled a muscle during the stand off and was listed in good condition.
During the standoff, police shut down 63rd Street between Massasoit and Lorel avenues.
