Man Attacks Teen Girl, Rips Her Shorts After She Refuses To Show Him Musical Instrument
PARK RIDGE, Ill. (CBS) -- Police say a Park Ridge man pushed a 16-year-old girl to the ground and ripped her shorts, after she refused to show him a musical instrument she was carrying as she walked down the street.
Anthony M. Nugent, 37, of Park Ridge, faces a felony count of aggravated battery after the attack at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of South Home Avenue, a statement from Park Ridge police said. He was ordered held on $250,000 bond.
Police say Nugent walked up to the girl on the sidewalk and asked her what she was carrying. She said she had a musical instrument and kept walking.
But Nugent wanted to see the instrument and became angry when the girl refused, police said. So he grabbed her, threw her to the ground and began ripping her shorts, police said.
He then hit the girl several times on the buttocks with his hand, police said.
A person driving by saw the attack and stopped to call 911.
The attacker tried to flee when the passerby's car stopped, but Park Ridge police were able to capture him, the statement said.
The girl suffered marks and abrasions during the attack.
Nugent was also charged with misdemeanor possession of cannabis, the statement said.
Deputy Chief of Police Lou Jogmen said that early reports do not indicate that Nugent wanted to sexually assault the girl.
