Man Arrested Immediately After Robbing Englewood Bank
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was captured by security guards minutes after robbing a bank Thursday afternoon in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.
Jamal Donnerson, 23, of Chicago faces one federal count of bank robbery, according to a federal criminal complaint filed Friday in U.S. District Court.
At 2:47 p.m. Thursday, Donnerson walked up to the counter at the U.S. Bank branch at 815 W. 63rd St. and slid a note to the teller that said, "I need the money," according to the complaint.
The teller could not see the robber's hands and feared he could be armed, according to the complaint. He gave Donnerson about $1,425 in cash from the drawer, and Donnerson left the bank.
A security guard, who was standing at the bank's lobby doors, was alerted that a robbery had just occurred and saw Donnerson walking eastbound on the north side of 63rd Street, according to the complaint.
The security guard got into his car and followed Donnerson and, with two other security guards, detained him in the 700 block of West 63rd.
One of the security guards searched Donnerson and found the note and a large amount of cash in his pocket, according to the complaint. Chicago Police officers arrived and took him into custody.
The officers showed the teller Donnerson through the glass front doors of the bank, and the teller identified him as the robber, according to the complaint. Donnerson also matched the suspect seen in the bank's surveillance video of the robbery.
