Man Arrested For Magazine Subscription Scam; Says People Are 'Easy To Fool'
RIVERSIDE, Ill. (CBS) -- Police in Riverside have busted a man for selling phony magazine subscriptions around the western suburb.
As WBBM Newsradio's Pat Cassidy reports, Frederick Dawson, 42, of Youngstown, Ohio, was fired in May from his job selling door-to-door magazine subscriptions through a Missouri company, according to the Chicago Tribune.
But Dawson kept on selling the subscriptions door-to-door in Riverside and has been pocketing the money, deeming suburban Cook County residents "easy to fool," the Tribune reported.
Dawson kept a list of names of people whom he had decided were easy marks whom he could hit up for money again, the Tribune reported.
Dillon was arrested Monday morning in the 100 block of Northgate Road in Riverside, after someone called police, the newspaper reported. He looked legitimate with the correct paperwork and receipts, but police found out he had been fired in May, the newspaper reported.
