Man Arrested After Turning In $17K In Cash
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (STMW) -- A man who told northwest suburban police he found $17,000 in cash outside a bank ATM was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly lying about where he found the loot.
On June 6, police responded to the 2600 block of Kirchoff Rd. in Rolling Meadows, where Robert J. Adams told them he found about $17,000 in cash outside the Chase Bank ATM, a release from Rolling Meadows police said.
Adams turned the cash in to the Chase Bank and told them he found it outside by a newspaper stand.
But after a lengthy investigation with Loomis armor car services and the FBI, detectives reviewed video showing Adams recovering the bag of cash near an ATM in a Walgreens store in Midlothian, the release said.
Adams admitted to police that he lied about the circumstances about how and where he found the money. He was cited and released after being charged with filing a false police report, the release said.
