Man Arrested After Fleeing Eisenhower Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) --A man facing several charges after he attempted to flee a crash on the Eisenhower Expressway early Sunday in west suburban Maywood has been ordered held on $25,000 bond.
Cook County Sheriff's officers came across a two-car crash on westbound I-290 east of First Avenue about 2 a.m. Monday, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.
The officers stopped to check for injuries and a "good Samaritan" told them that a man involved in the crash had a gun and had tried to flee the scene by attempting to hijack the other party's BMW, authorities said.
The reportedly armed person ran off and the officers gave chase, police said. One of the officers fired a shot, but did not strike the person.
Kenneth Spruiell, 25, of Maywood, was taken into custody not far from the crash site, police said. He was taken to the hospital for injuries from the crash, police said.
Spruiell has been charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated driving under the influence and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police said. He also had two traffic warrants and one warrant for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
On Tuesday, Spruiell was ordered held on $25,000 bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office. He is next scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
