Man Arrested After Firing Shots During Standoff In Lockport
LOCKPORT, Ill. (CBS) -- A 41-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning, after he fired shots at neighbors' houses during a five-hour standoff with police.
Lockport police were called to a home in the 100 block of North Jefferson Street shortly before 4:30 a.m. for a report of shots fired, according to Chief Terry Lemming.
When officers arrived, they learned a husband and wife were involved in a domestic dispute.
The husband barricaded himself inside the home while police established a perimeter. Neighbors were notified of the situation and told to stay in their basements. Lockport schools also were notified, but Lemming said luckily there are no schools in the immediate vicinity of the home.
At one point, the man was observed in the nude inside the house.
He also came outside of the house at one point and fired shots toward neighboring houses, hitting at least one house.
Lemming said the man was arrested around 9:30 a.m., when he surrendered to police as they were in the process of evacuating neighbors from their homes.
The man has no criminal history, and did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Lemming said.
