Man Accused Of Waiting At Bus Stop To Attack Student
VALPARAISO, Ind. (STMW) - A 19-year-old Valparaiso man allegedly battered a 15-year-old as he got off his school bus Thursday afternoon.
The victim told police he believes he was targeted for speaking with Javier Zamora's 18-year-old girlfriend the day before at Valparaiso High School.
The victim and his younger sister got off their bus about 2:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of Elm Street and saw a car, that was not usually there, parked nearby. As they walked past, they told police Zamora got out of the car and tackled the younger teen from behind, then got on top of him and started punching him in the face. He got back into his car and drove away when the victim's mother came outside and started yelling.
Police spotted Zamora's car, a tan Buick with heavily tinted windows, on Lincolnway about two minutes after the attack was reported.
When questioned, Zamora, whose knuckles were bloody, told police the younger boy initiated the fight by touching his girlfriend inappropriately and threatening him through text messages. He said he went to the teen's bus stop to talk with him, but the younger teen attacked him.
It appeared the girlfriend, who also got the younger teen's cell phone number for Zamora, was in the Buick during the attack, according to the police report.
The 15-year-old was treated at Porter hospital's emergency room for cuts and bruises to his nose and the left side of his face. Zamora was jailed on a misdemeanor battery charge.
