Man Accused Of Attempted Murder After Choking Ex-Girlfriend
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (STMW) - A Grayslake man has been indicted by a Lake County grand jury after he allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend, then began reciting biblical passages when police arrived.
Stephen Irish, 23, allegedly tried to choke his ex-girlfriend to death on Nov. 13, according to Grayslake police Cmdr. Matt McCutcheon. On Thursday, he was indicted on charges of attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery.
Grayslake police were called to the 900 block of Chesapeake Boulevard regarding a domestic dispute and found Irish reciting biblical passages when they arrived, McCutcheon said.
The alleged victim told officers that Irish brandished a large kitchen knife and recited biblical passages about the sword of God, McCutheon said.
She told officers that Irish said he was going to kill her, lunged at her, pinned her down and choked her without mercy, McCutcheon said.
The woman refused medical care and assistance in finding temporary shelter, McCutcheon said.
Police found fresh scratches on Irish's face, McCutcheon said. Irish was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for medical and psychological evaluations, McCutcheon said.
Irish was treated and released from the hospital that day and taken into custody at Lake County Jail.
Irish was indicted Wednesday. He is scheduled for arraignment Dec. 9. He remained in custody Thursday in lieu of $2 million bond.
