Man, 27, Shot Dead In Washington Heights Neighborhood
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 27-year-old man is dead after being shot in the South Side's Washington Heights neighborhood Sunday evening.
Police say the man was standing with his girlfriend in the 9900 block of South Carpenter Street around 7:25 p.m., when she received a call on a cell phone.
Moments later, two gunmen came up from an alley and shot the man several times.
The man – identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Victory Island, 27, of the 7000 block of South Chappel Avenue – was pronounced dead at 8:07 p.m. Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
He was shot in the head, police said.
Officials think the shooting may be drug-related, police said. The suspects ran away and were not in custody early Monday.
It is not clear whether the cell phone call that Island's girlfriend received was related to the shooting.
