UPDATED 08/07/12 6:11 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A young man was shot and killed Monday night just blocks from the University of Illinois at Chicago campus.
The victim, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Dante Young, 20, was on the street near Laflin and Fillmore streets when he was gunned down just after 9:45 p.m. Thursday.
Young, of the 1300 block of West Washburne Avenue, was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m. at Stroger Hospital of Cook County, the Sun-Times Media Wire reported.
This is the closest shooting to the UIC campus since last November, when Angela Bonds-Roberts, 48, was shot and killed in the UIC Medical Center parking garage – allegedly by her husband, Earl Roberts.
The crime scene is also just across Ashland Avenue from the Rush University Medical Center campus.
No one was in custody as of Tuesday morning.
