Make it 11!
There might be no stopping this White Sox win streak... at least, not until they stop playing the National League. With a 3-2 win over the Cubs Saturday night the Sox have stretched their win streak to 11--the longest any White Sox team has had since a 12-gamer back in 1961.
There's no question the team is hitting, fielding and pitching infinitely better than in the first two months of the season but just how much, is the question. Over the last 17 games White Sox starters are 12-1 with a 1.91 ERA and 16 quality starts. The entire pitching staff--bullpen included--was on a 24-inning scoreless streak until it was snapped in the sixth inning by an RBI single from Derrek Lee. They're also picking the ball up with much more regularity--they've only made two errors during the streak.
Paul Konerko was the hero for the Sox. His 8th inning solo homer was the game-winner. Konerko is on a nine-game hitting streak (hitting .400 during that span) and pulls to within one homerun of Frank Thomas for the club lead in interleague homers.
Konerko's homer came off a 99 mph fastball from Cubs rookie Andrew Cashner. Freddy Garcia, for one, knows PK never misses a fastball. "For me, Konerko... you can throw 105 and he's ready for the fastball--all the time. This guy throw 100... you see where that ball lands. I'm not surprised he hit a homerun."
