Major Expansion Project Set To Begin On Route 59 In Western Suburbs
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (CBS) -- Major construction work on one of the busiest stretches of Chicago area roadways is about to begin.
As WBBM Newsradio's Dave Berner reports, Naperville crews will soon start work on the widening of Route 59.
The road is heavily-traveled between the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway (Interstate 88) and New York Street/Aurora Avenue.
The enormous project will start with taking down numerous trees along the road.
Many of the 50,000 people who drive down Route 59 every day are already anxious about the project, because the road is already such a mess.
"It's a logjam," one man said. "You can't get off it. You can't get on it. You're stuck in it," and during the widening project, "it's probably going to be the same. That's what we're all worried about."
Also during the tree removal, state workers will be patching and resurfacing Route 59 from north of Ferry Road to North Aurora Road.
All the work begins before the end of the month.
