Major Bummer as Wright Gets Hurt
With Chris Harris already nursing a back injury, the Bears lose another safety.
Rookie Major Wright went down with what the Bears are calling a groin injury. It occurred when Wright slipped as he was trying to intercept an errant pass. The severity of Wright's injury is unknown at this time.
The rookie had begun to see some time with the first team over the last couple of days. Wright was having an excellent practice on Monday before the injury. He had one interception and a pass breakup.
Defensive tackle Marcus Harrison was unable to complete practice for the second straight day. The Bears said he became dehydrated.
Wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias and running back Harvey Unga also missed practice. Iglesias is recovering from a quad injury. Unga has a bad hamstring.
Lovie Smith said he hopes Harris can practice again in the next couple of days.
FALSE START FRANK
Right tackle Frank Omiyale drew another false start penalty in the Bears run drill. He was replaced by Kevin Shaffer after his infraction. Omiyale committed a pair of false start penalties in Sunday's practice.
"That is too many," said Smith. "It's the same guy a few times, got to get it corrected, simple as that."
Offensive line coach Mike Tice was asked to sum up his group after Monday's practice.
"We're going to play tough, smart football," he said. "Some of us weren't very smart today."
But Tice refused to blame his players.
"Some of it might be bad coaching so we don't want to punish a guy when it's bad coaching," he said.
This is Tice's 15th season as an NFL coach.
