Magazine Names Chicago's Alinea The World's Best Restaurant
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The famed Alinea restaurant in the Lincoln Park neighborhood has been named the best restaurant in the world by a publication that bills itself as the private jet lifestyle magazine.
As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, the closest most may ever come to eating at Alinea may be walking past it at 1723 N. Halsted St. But for people celebrating special occasions and foodies looking for cutting-edge fare, it is probably no surprise that Elite Traveler Magazine rates Alinea as the tops in the world.

The set menu at Alinea runs for $210 per person without drinks, and reservations are gobbled up two months in advance.
Among the menu offerings with their unique presentations are oyster leaf, woolly pig – which is supposed to have a lighter and cleaner taste than the pork that most people eat – and dark chocolate with butternut squash, lingonberry and stout.
Alinea chef Grant Achatz's ultramodern cooking style at Alinea has come to define the molecular gastronomy movement. The James Beard Foundation honored Achatz with its award as the nation's top chef in 2008.
The top ranking for Alinea by Elite Traveler comes after Ferran Adria's El Bulli restaurant in northeast Spain closed. El Bulli had long been considered the top of the tops in the restaurant world, according to the Huffington Post.
