Made In Chicago: Rich Chocolates & Candies
CHICAGO (CBS) -- In a kitchen just north of Lincoln Square, Lauren Pett whips up sweets for Rich Chocolates & Candies.
"We do everything from scratch," Pett says. "We make everything by hand. I say 'we' because it sounds better. It's me."
Since 2007, Pett has been the owner and sole employee. And she says she has an occasional intern and an "extremely supportive husband."

"I moved here in 2002 and just immediately felt welcomed by the city," she said. "I really love Chicago. It's a great candy city."
In fact, she makes a "Windy City Collection" of truffles.
"The Greektown is dark chocolate with Greek yogurt and honey," Pett says. "The Chinatown has orange and sesame. The Humboldt Park has guava and coconut."
Her favorite? The German chocolate cake truffle.
"It tastes like German chocolate cake. It's like biting into a piece of cake. I love it."
And she likes milk chocolate.
"I think maybe sometimes people say they like dark chocolate best because they think they're supposed to," Pett said.
Pett says she knows people like choices, so she uses milk, white and dark chocolate.
"I just think nothing makes people smile more than candy."
