Made In Chicago: Blue Star Auto Store

"Well, this is a dying breed. The kind of business that I have," says David, the owner of Blue Star Auto Store on State Street at Cullerton.

He says the Blue Star chain dates back to 1917 and used to have dozens of auto parts stores.

Now?

"One store."

The owner says the four-story building used to be the Cullerton Hotel, a bordello back in the day of Al Capone.

"We had some ghost-hunters here like two or three weeks ago, and they found a lot of strange things up there."

WBBM: Like what?

"They say there's a policeman buried in the basement."

"This is the area where they found a demon named Azul. And I kind of laughed, but when I saw the girls come down - there were four girls - when they came down, they were white as a ghost."

WBBM: You never heard anything strange?

"No, nothing that I would care about."

WBBM: What do you mean by that?

"Well, if something falls, you don't really think that somebody else did it. It just fell."

David says the ghost-hunters are coming back.

He says his auto parts store customers are not curious about whatever else goes on - or has gone on - in the Blue Star Auto Store building at 2001 South State.
