Macy's Putting Finishing Touches On Christmas Windows
CHICAGO (CBS) -- More than 150 artists and designers have been working overtime at Macy's, preparing to unveil this year's Christmas display windows at the State Street store.

"This is the tradition," Macy's visual director John Jones said during a behind-the-scenes preview. "I think the unique part about our windows, and especially this year, is they always have a positive message."
The theme this year is "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus."
Jones said his favorite part of this year's display is the one depicting Virginia's bedroom.
"If you notice the bedspread within this room, this is Virginia's room, where she actually writes the beloved letter," he said.
Virginia's letter, written in 1897, was answered in an editorial in a New York newspaper that included the "Yes, Virginia" line.
The sets at Macy's are made entirely of paper; very detailed paper. The fake snow on the windows is made from kosher salt.
"We changed the size and scale of the windows to better represent like a jewel box scenery," Jones said. "We think that works better with the paper technique."
"We have things that are gonna move, things that slide. We have a crazy librarian that floats through the air," he added.
The windows will be unveiled on Saturday, Nov. 6.
