Loyola University Students Warned After Sexual Attacks On Campus
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A warning for students at Loyola University after a string of sexual attacks on campus.
Two happened within two weeks, one just Sunday night in the 6300 block of North Winthrop Ave.
The other happened Sept. 7 at 6333 North Winthrop, and the third took place at 6310 North Winthrop--all within blocks of each other.
And students are on edge, as CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports.
Just steps from Loyola's main campus, on a block littered with dorms filled with you young co-eds, in the last two weeks, two women have been attacked.
"I guess the one last night was on my street, an hour after I walked back from library. So that's kind of concerning to think about," Izabela Burns, a student.
Last night's attack was just outside Seattle Hall, around 10:30 p.m. Campus police say two men were leaning against the fence and when the woman walked by "one of the men groped the student," police said.
"My friend goes to mass at 9:00 p.m. They're just leaving mass, people are leaving the library...yeah, it's disheartening," said student Kathy Balmius.
This same block was the scene of a similar attack just two weeks ago, and another in November of 2015. Sources tell CBS 2 that campus police have a photo of one of the men, and are actively searching for them. They say neither are students at Loyola.
Now, police are advising precautions, and students are already listening.
"Definitely, I wouldn't go out by myself at night," student Maddie Rzeszut says.
There is a scheduled meeting for students later this month, with the newest topic on the agenda the recent attacks, and a reminder of the safety tips.
