Lovie: 'The Only Way It should Be'
For Bears and Packers' fans, this will be the biggest game in recent memory. It's the matchup that both fan bases dreamed of when the playoffs started. Now that it it's a reality, it just feels right.
"Well it's only fitting that it would come down to that," Bears' head coach Lovie Smith said of the rivalry matchup. "They've had a great year. We know each other well...We know what they're going to do, they know what we're going to do."
When you stop and think about it, this really is a dream matchup for Bears and Packers' fans. In one game you can knock your rival out of the playoffs, as well as secure your shot at the Super Bowl title. There will be huge bragging rights on the line Sunday.
But it's a feeling that isn't exclusive to these fan bases. Fans across the NFL can imagine what it would be like to face their hated rival in the conference championship game.
"No matter where you are," Lovie said, "there's always a team you have to beat, there's a rival that everyone has. Of course, being a Chicago Bears fan, you know that it's Green Bay for us. So to have to beat the Packers to get to the Super Bowl, our ultimate goal, is the only way it should be, we embrace it."
The players and coaches had better embrace the significance and emotion that surrounds this game. Because the Soldier Field crowd, without a doubt, will be the loudest crowd in recent memory.
