Lovie Smith: 'It Wasn't A Mediocre Effort' From Offense
(CBS) Despite only 274 total net yards and one offensive touchdown in the Bears' 23-6 win over the Rams Sunday, head coach Lovie Smith defended his his offense's performance on WBBM Newsradio 780 and 105.9 FM Monday morning.
"No I don't see it like that at all," Smith said when the offense was described as "mediocre." "It's about our offense competing against their offense. It wasn't a mediocre effort. That was the exact effort we needed to win the football game yesterday.

Quarterback Jay Cutler had another sub-par effort and the offense hardly looks like the group that scored 41 points against the Colts in Week 1, but Smith doesn't see it that way.
"When your team ends up with over 20 points, that isn't mediocre at all, that's just a good sound win and our offense helped us get it," he said.
Meanwhile, the head coach provided some hope regarding running back Matt Forte, who missed Sunday's game with an ankle injury.
"He made a lot of progress last week and we have an extra day also so that should help," Smith said when asked if Forte will be ready for next week's Monday night game at Dallas. "We're just hopeful that he'll be able to go. If not, not only Michael Bush yesterday, but Kahlil Bell and Armando Allen all did a good job, but we hope we'll get our stud running back back."
