Lovie Smith Doesn't Have Time For Questions About Whether He's Being Too Easy On His Illini
(CBS) The Illinois football team is struggling, falling to 1-4 on Saturday after a 34-31 overtime loss to Purdue.
And amid this poor start, coach Lovie Smith doesn't have time for questions on whether he's being too easy on his Illini. At a press conference Monday, Smith was asked whether he's "taking it too easy or being too relaxed" with this team, with the context being in reference to penalties and how to commit fewer of them.
Smith didn't have much patience for that query.
"Have I been too lax with our football team?" Smith said. "I'm freaking going out there every day just letting them do what they want to do? Absolutely not. I'm not going to give that question an answer.
"Lax with a football team? You're freaking lax with your job? I'm not either."
