Lovie Smith: Bears Will Miss Jeffery, But Bennett Will 'Move Right In'
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Lovie Smith expects his Bears to be refreshed and ready to go against the Lions after coming off their bye this weekend, and he thinks wide receiver Earl Bennett will "move right in" to fill the void left by the injured Alshon Jeffery.
Smith has previously said Jeffery will be out for a while with a broken right hand, but declined to put a timetable on the rookie's return on Monday.
"Alshon Jeffery played good football for us, so we'll miss him," the Bears' head coach told WBBM Newsradio's Josh Liss.
Meantime, wide receiver Earl Bennett is expected to return to the lineup, after missing two games with a hand injury.
"Earl's been a big part of what we've done for a long time around here, so he'll just move right in," Smith said.
The Bears are coming off their bye week, and will host the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football on Oct. 22.
Smith said he expects a "great practice" after players had four days off for the bye week.
"We're refreshed, ready to go. You know, you look forward to this bye week to get refreshed again for this long haul. So I know the guys are anxious to get back on the field," Smith said.
