Lovie Reflects On Harris' Departure
Tommie Harris was the first player that Lovie Smith drafted as the head coach of the Chicago Bears, and for a while it looked like Smith and the Bears struck gold with the Oklahoma product.
But on Monday, the Bears made the decision to terminate the contracts of Harris, Hunter Hillenmeyer and Kevin Shaffer.
"That's just a part of our business,'' Smith told Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune. "Of course, Tommie is my first recruit. But at the same time, we're both moving in different directions."
Harris was a Pro-Bowl selection for three straight seasons (2005-07), but an injury derailed his career and he yet to be abel to get back to his early career form.
"We have no complaints about how Tommie worked to get back to form or any of that," Smith said. "But again, we have some other players that we're going to look at. ... Sometimes, a divorce is good. And there's no more to be said.''
