Lovie On Eagles: 'We Think We Can Match Up'

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Bears head Coach Lovie Smith says the game Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles is "a huge game for us," but despite the Eagles' prowess on the field, "we think we can match up."

The game comes after many conference contenders won on Sunday, and the Bears are hoping to set themselves apart as a successful team.

"It's big. It's a huge game for us," Smith said. "What you are seeing in the NFL is the better teams are starting to distance themselves a little bit. We want to be one of those teams."

WBBM Newsradio's Josh Liss points out that the Eagles' Michael Vick is like no other quarterback, but no other defense seems to handle him better than the Bears'. So what new wrinkles will come in the defensive attack?

"Each week we add a few new wrinkles, but there's still a core we believe in of how we play defense that seems to match up well against an athletic guy like Michael Vick, and one of the reason is just we're pretty athletic too," Smith said. "We have an athlete in all 11 positions, and you need that against him."

Also standing out on the Eagles offense is LeSean McCoy, who is averaging almost 108 yards per rushing game. What is Coach Smith drilling into the defenders' heads to stop McCoy?

"Number one is just be distant in our gap," he said. "They have a lot of offensive weapons, but the core skill guys are the same group that we played last year, so we have an idea of what they bring to the table and we think we can match up."

The Bears take on the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
