Loose Steeple On Avondale Church Closes Streets
Steeple Loose On Church
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A loose steeple on an Avondale neighborhood church in danger of falling has caused several streets to close on the North Side.
The three-and-a-half story steeple of the church at Belmont and Washtenaw avenues has become loose, possibly from high winds, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
"The structure presents a hazard to the public and needs to be removed," said Mimi Simon at the Chicago Building Commission.
The steeple is set to be removed on Tuesday.
Belmont Avenue is closed eastbound to California and westbound to Rockwell, Greer said.
CTA buses have also been rerouted in the area.
