Loop Hit-And-Run SUV Still At Large
CHICAGO (STMW) - Chicago Police continue to search for the driver of an SUV that plowed into and seriously injured two women walking on a busy Loop street Tuesday evening.
The hit-and-run happened about 7:15 p.m. in the 100 block of South State Street and left both women in critical condition, police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety said Tuesday.
The women, in their 50s, were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said Tuesday.
Police were initially seeking a four-door, silver Mitsubishi Montero Sport with Illinois license plates X76 5013. Police updated a community alert Friday seeking the public's help in locating the same vehicle but corrected the SUV's color to olive and tan, instead of silver.
The Secretary of State's office said the vehicle is registered to a woman in south suburban Sauk Village. Police in the village were notified on Wednesday to be on the lookout for the SUV.
"The officers have been attempting to find it,'' Sauk Village police Sgt. Rebecca Salisbery said Thursday afternoon. As of 2 p.m. the search has been unsuccessful.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating and asking anyone with information on the SUV or accident to call (312) 745-4521.
