Long Island Trump Supporter Lost Best Man And 100 Other Facebook Friends
NEW YORK (CBS) -- A Trump supporter in Long Island held a press conference Thursday after being attacked and unfriended on Facebook for his political beliefs.
After Gary Pollakusky changed his Facebook profile photo to one of his family in front of a "Trump-Pence" sign at the Republican Election Night Victory Party, he said the unthinkable happened. CBS 2 New York reports.
"Folks that we were friends with de-friended us, including my best man," Pollakusky said.
More than 100 other people unfriended Pollakusky, too, and left mean comments, he said.
Pollakusky also serves as a Long Island Trump Campaign/RNC coordinator. He decided to use his story to draw attention to the issue of cyber bullying and held Thursday a press conference at Brookhaven Republican Headquarters in Coram, New York with other GOP supporters.
Pollakusky said he just wants his friends back and that it is time to move on.
Thursday also marked National Unfriend Day. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel started it a few years ago, but it has become an annual event every Nov. 17, encouraging social media users to delete their unwanted contacts.
