Lockdown Lifted At Illinois State University
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Illinois State University was placed on lockdown for about an hour after reports of a man with a weapon.
The lockdown was lifted around 4:25 p.m. after a suspect, believed armed with a weapon was taken into custody.
According to ISU Police, no weapon was found on the suspect.
"Residence hall and dining center restrictions have been lifted. All campus operations will continue as scheduled."
WBBM Newsradio reported the suspect was not a student but was visiting the campus. There was some sort of altercation with a woman, who reported to police that the suspect had a gun.
A student told CBS 2 that they were alerted to the security threat via robo calls to their cell phones.
An alert posted on the Illinois State University website at 3:35 p.m. stated:
"All residence halls and dining centers are restricted to only current residents at this time."
"Person with weapon last seen near Watterson Towers. Be alert, do NOT approach, and seek shelter. Suspect is a Nathan Thomas, described as a black male, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall with dreadlocks. Last seen wearing a white hat, a black coat with red and black stripes on the waist and wrists, and baggy pants."
