Local Student Creates Holiday Display For A Good Cause
GURNEE, Ill. (CBS) - The city Christmas tree is not the only sign that the holiday season is here. For the third year, as CBS 2's Mike Parker reports, there's a spectacle to behold in Gurnee.
Witness the stunning display of music and lights, perfectly synchronized in the front yard of the Germann family home in the northern suburb.
It's the brainchild of young Adam Germann, who programmed it on his home computer.
"Everything's controlled to each tenth of a second," he said. "I have 64 individual channels of lights that I can control."
There are 10,000 individual lights in the show, along with music like "Wizards of Winter" by the Transiberian Orchestra. Folks driving by 4968 Prairie Oak Road can listen to the music on their car radios.
And Adam is hoping visitors who enjoy the new 2010 spectacle will help the hungry.
"They should just leave any non-perishables in the box and then I'll donate it to the Northern Illinois Food Bank at the end of the month," Germann said.
Last year, 389 donations were given. The goal is to match that this year.
The new and improved show begins December 1st.
