Local Soul Legend To Appear At South Side Blues Fest

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Fresh off an appearance at the Chicago Blues Festival in Grant Park at the start of the summer, local musical treasure Holle Thee Maxwell is taking her talents to a South Side festival Thursday.

Maxwell, who recorded under the name Holly Maxwell in the 1960s and '70s and gained worldwide popularity, is performing during the day Thursday at the Chicago Housing Authority's Second Annual Southside Blues Festival.

She will appear at the Minnie Riperton Apartments, a seniors' residential development at 4250 S. Princeton Ave.

Maxwell is best known as a soul singer, and a songwriter whoswe material has been covered by famed artists such as Bobby "Blue" Bland. Her Web site says she filled in for Tina Turner in Ike Turner's band, and has also worked with the Temptations, the Dells and other legendary groups.
