Little Village Church Members To March Against Immigrant Detention Center
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Members of a small Little Village neighborhood church are hoping civil libertarians will join them for a three-day march to protest a new immigration detention center planned for far south suburban Crete.
As WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports, the Rev. Jose Landaverde, of Our Lady of Guadalupe Anglican Catholic Church, said the three day march will begins the Friday before Palm Sunday from the church at 3442 W. 26th St.

The march ends up in south suburban Crete, joining those local residents opposed to expansion of federal immigrant detention facilities.
"We should not send a psychological message with creating private jails to incarcerate them; destroying their families, destroying their future," Landaverde said.
The proposed 800-bed facility is also widely unpopular with some Crete residents.
"The village itself is going to, I believe, basically die. People will move out. You won't be able to sell your property," Crete resident Mark Rose said last week.
Crete village administrators say there is no final official word on construction plans, though Corrections Corporation of America literature says the detention center will be built on 74 acres on west Monee Road.
The facility would hold immigration detainees who require minimum to maximum security.
