Ventura: 'Respect Is Something That Is Earned'

(WSCR) Less than 24 hours after surprisingly being named the White Sox's new manager, Robin Ventura jumped on 670 The Score to discuss his new gig.

Ventura said he wasn't contacted by GM Kenny Williams until after Ozzie Guillen left the team and said he was surprised to see him go.

"I figured Ozzie was probably there another eight to 10 years so that wasn't really on the radar," Ventura said on The Boers and Bernstein Show. "I think getting back into the organization was something that could down the road lead to different positions but initially was never about being the manager."

Here are some other bulletpoints from Ventura's appearance on The Score:

"That's not necessarily true. If you can work together and it works then that's great, but that's not how baseball always works."

On if he will try to teach fundamentals during the season:

"There are things, especially if you have a younger team, you will have opportunities to teach."

On Adam Dunn's struggles:

"Adam Dunn is going to fix himself. I hope he's hunting right now. This game is cruel and it can bring you to your knees and it can drain you mentally ... I hope he comes back to his potential."

On demanding respect:

"I think that's something that is earned. I'm not going to go in there and yell at everybody and expect them to bow down."
