Listen: Konerko Talks About Career's End With Spiegel & Mannelly
(CBS) With the sun setting on his career, the feeling of finality has truly set in for White Sox first baseman/designated hitter Paul Konerko.
He has less than three weeks left, and then it's all over. On Thursday morning, he joined the Spiegel and Mannelly Show to talk about the past, present and future.
"The whole thing has been great," Konerko said of returning for one more season despite it not statistically going as well as he'd hoped. "There's no regrets. There's not one time during the season when I was like, 'Why did I do this?'"
With a fracture in his hand keeping him out lately, Konerko also emphasized, "I'll be out there" at season's end. He hopes to be ready to pinch hit soon.
The White Sox wrap up the season at home with a four-game series against the Royals from Sept. 25-28.
"I just hope I can thank everybody," Konerko said. "I don't want to let anybody down in that regard, because I feel like there are so many people who have, are and will go out of their way for this. For me, being the player, it's kind of like, I don't get it. It's tough to understand because all you've been doing is been doing what you've done your whole life.
"But I definitely appreciate at. It's been great."
