Listen: Craig Miller With Roy Jones Jr.
By Craig Miller-
(CBS) Roy Jones Jr. is the former Heavyweight Champion of the World and is HBO's ringside analyst. He joined Craig Miller to preview the fight between Timothy Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov, which can be seen this Saturday, March 16th on HBO.
Roy tells Craig that Bernard Hopkins is a boring fighter, but what makes him so unique is the way he makes his opponent fight his type of fight. There is nothing flashy about Bernard Hopkins. Jones Jr. told Craig that if Bernard wants to fight him that he would gladly accept the fight.
Roy disagrees with Harold Lederman and explains why Timothy Bradley is smart to fight Ruslan Provodnikov and a fight between Bradley and Mayweather doesn't make sense because he hasn't fought in over a year. Freddie Roach is Ruslan Provodnikov's trainer and says he has the power to beat Bradley, but Jones says the speed of Bradley may dictate the outcome of the fight.
Roy Jones Jr. with Craig Miller
Jones Jr. is very enthusiastic about a fifth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. He tells Craig that Robert "the Ghost" Guerrero is a great fighter and if anyone can beat Floyd Mayweather, Guerrero is the guy to do it.
When it comes to the all-time great fighters in boxing history it is hard for Roy to decide where he ranks Floyd Mayweather because he didn't fight Pacquiao. He would, however, change his mind if Mayweather fought Canelo Alvarez.
He told Craig that his toughest fight to date is James Toney and is still angry about being robbed of the Gold Medal at the 1988 Olympics. Jones Jr. wants to fight for the World Cruiser Weight Title here in Chicago. He says he had been in talks with some of the promoters to negotiate a fight deal.
Roy praises Dana White for the work he has done with the UFC and says that boxing should have one governing body. He says that 50 Cent will be a great promoter for boxing. Roy intends to put out another rap album in the near future.
