Lipinski Wants Korean War Museum In Chicago Area
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Ideas for a national museum to tell the story of the Korean War have shifted from Springfield to the Chicago area.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Dave Dahl reports, the Korean War is often called the forgotten war, and similar to conflicts in which the U.S. has engaged since, officials hope people support the troops, if not the war.
"No matter what you think about any of these wars, it's important to honor the people who have fought them, and there's no question – we want to make sure that we honor these veterans. We want to honor all those who fell there in Korea," said U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.)

Lipinski says he has visited Panmunjom and other Korean sites, and has a special interest on a Korean War National Museum.
He says he hopes a temporary location for the museum can start things off before a permanent location can be built. Efforts for a Korean War National Museum in Springfield have stalled, probably forever.
"I put an amendment into the national defense authorization bill saying that Congress supports this museum," Lipinski said.
There is no word yet on where in the Chicago area the museum might be located.
