Lincolnwood Voters Reject Bond For New School Building
LINCONLWOOD, Ill. (CBS) -- Voters in Lincolnwood resoundingly repudiated their local school board in the election Tuesday.
As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, the board of District 74 initially tried on its own to issue a $25 million bond for a new school building. But activists forced the issue to a referendum.
Now, voters have overwhelmingly defeated the bond proposal by around 91 to 9 percent.
Meanwhile, in West Northfield District 31, voters narrowly approved a tax increase to raise revenue by about $1.5 million per year. The board says that will stave off further budget cuts beyond those already made.
In DuPage County, by 86 to 14 percent, voters defeated Clarendon Hills' controversial request for home rule powers. Opponents feared it could lead to tax increases without voter authorization.
