Lincolnwood Fire Leaves Dog Dead
LINCOLNWOOD, Ill. (STMW) - The cause of a fire that destroyed a kitchen and killed a dog in Lincolnwood remained under investigation early Monday.
Fire investigators are looking for the cause of a blaze in a two-story Georgian at 3835 Estes Ave. in Lincolnwood, after it destroyed the kitchen about 6 p.m. Sunday, also killing a dog.
"The family that lived there was gone for most of the day, but returned this evening to attend a neighbor's birthday party. Other neighbors pounded on the door to alert the family that their house was on fire," said Lincolnwood Fire Chief Michael Hansen.
The fire, which started in the kitchen was mostly a "room and contents fire, but it generated a lot of heat," Hansen said.
Most of the damage was confined to that room, but there was also a lot of smoke damage, as well as a little water damage to the rest of the house, he added.
However, the dog that was being sought by family members was found dead upstairs. No estimate of the total damage has been made yet, he added.
Also on the scene were firefighters from Skokie, Morton Grove, Niles and Evanston.
