Life Sentence For Woman Who Set Deadly Fire
MAYWOOD, Ill. (CBS) -- A woman received a life prison sentence Thursday for setting a 2006 fire that killed a mother and her 6-year-old daughter in Cicero.
Sonia Lebron, 29, was convicted in July of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated arson.
Cook County Judge Thomas Tucker sentenced her to life in prison Thursday.
The Oct. 4, 2006, fire at 1831 S. 57th Ave. in Cicero killed Raquel Perez, 40, and her son, Cesar Camacho, both of whom died of smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Prosecutors said Lebron was living with her boyfriend at a Cicero home his mother was renting at the time. Lebron was in an ongoing dispute with her boyfriend's mother, and used gasoline to set several fires in the house.
Among the points where Lebron set fires was the doorway of the bedroom where the victims were sleeping, and they couldn't escape from the fire, prosecutors said.
Two other children were taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn for minor smoke inhalation after the fire, but no one else was seriously injured.
