Life Sentence For Man Convicted Of Killing Mom, Escort
WHEATON, Ill. (CBS) -- An Addison man has been sentenced to life in prison for stabbing his mother to death before hiring an escort and killing her when she found the knife used in his mother's murder.
In May, Gary Schuning, 28, was found guilty of two counts of murder in the deaths of his mother, 40-year-old Doris Pagliaro, and 21-year-old Kirsti Hoenig of Chicago. On Wednesday, DuPage County Judge John Kinsella sentenced Schuning to natural life in prison, without the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors said Schuning stabbed his mother 40 times during an argument in their home in Addison on Feb. 26, 2006. After killing his mother and stashing her body in a bedroom, he allegedly called an escort service where Hoenig worked.
Schuning allegedly killed Hoenig after she found a bloody knife in a bathroom. Authorities said that before she was killed, Hoenig called a friend about what she'd found and the friend called police.
Police responding to a disturbance found Pagliaro and Hoenig stabbed to death and Schuning with self-inflicted injuries.
"Today's sentence closes the books on two senseless murders," State's Atty. Robert Berlin said in a news release. "Mr. Schuning will spend the rest of his life behind bars for the murder of his mother, Doris Pagliaro; and Kristi Hoenig, a complete stranger."
