Libertyville, Vernon Hills High Schools Relax Cell Phone Use Rules
VERNON HILLS, Ill. (CBS) -- The new school year means new cell phone privileges for Libertyville and Vernon Hills High School students.
As WBBM Newsradio's Nancy Harty reports, until this starting school year, students at the two north suburban high schools could only use their cell phones before and after the school day.

Now, Libertyville and Vernon Hills students call, text or surf between classes, during lunch, and even in class with teacher permission.
Community High School District 128 Associate Supt. Al Fleming says the change is a reflection of how cell phones are part of our daily lives.
"There are so many things that cell phones do besides make phone calls that students use and depend on, that we began to really question, why do we have this policy?" he said.
Fleming says cell phones are still banned in class without teacher approval, as well as in restrooms and locker rooms.
