Levine: Chris Sale Throws In Side Session, Remains On Pace For April Return
By Bruce Levine-
GLENDALE, Ariz. (CBS) -- The White Sox received good news Friday, as ace left-hander Chris Sale responded well to throwing 60 pitches in a side session in which he tested his injured right foot.
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn confirmed that Sale has done well in his group of throwing sessions the last two days. Sale threw four sets of 15 pitches in his side session Friday, Hahn said, and the team believes he's on pace for a timely return, though the date will be kept between Sale and the club for now.
Sale broke a bone in his right foot and sprained his right ankle lifting a box off of his truck on Feb. 27.
Since the injury, the White Sox have kept the 26-year-old Sale active while he rehabs the foot trauma. Part of his rehab was done in the swimming pool with low-impact walking and running exercises. From the time of Sale's injury, the team maintained that Sale would be back on the mound doing baseball activity by the third week of March.
Sale will be replaced by either Jeff Samardzija or Jose Quintana as the Opening Day starter in Kansas City on April 6.
